============================================================ #1 One God - "Seek The Spirit of Scriptures Not The Letter" ============================================================ Religions throughout the ages have proclaimed that humanity is but one big family. Most of the principles followed by one religion are also echoed by another.
To help gain a better understanding of just how similar the various religions are, I present the following collection of writings based on the principle of "Seek The Spirit of Scriptures Not The Letter".
Note, a different principle is introduced in each issue of the "Affirmations For The Mind" eZine.
The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. - Christianity
Rather let a letter be uprooted than the Torah be forgotten. - Judaism
Study the words, no doubt, but look Behind them to the thought they indicate, And having found it, throw the words away As chaff when you have sifted our the grain. - Hinduism
Let not scholars scrutinize The language of the wise too closely; The seers think more of the thought Than of the words in which 'tis caught. - Sufism
The Koran was sent down in seven dialects, and in every on its sentences there ia an outer and an inner meaning. - Islam

============================================================ #3 Affirmation - "Being Right or Happy" ============================================================ Affirmations to live by - "Being Right or Happy":
I am sure most of your have heard the saying "Do you want to be right or happy", must one be exclusive of the other, can't I be right and happy you might respond. Sure, as long as your dont HAVE to be right.
If you feel good about yourself "AS IS", you will not need the payoff of being right. These affirmations are based on "Feeling OK as you are".
* I feel worthy just being me * I am good enough just the way I am * I look only to God for feelings of worth * I seek approval only from myself * It is okay to be me * I love myself, simple because I can * I feel good knowing I am whole just as I am * I now feel happy and blissful just being alive * My life is whole and complete
I love to practice affirmations, if you use them also I am sure your will also, repeat these affirmation to yourself throughout the day. You don't have to believe them to be true, initially, faith will grow with practice.
============================================================ #4 Peace ============================================================ Peace comes within the souls of men, when they realize their oneness with the Universe, when they realize it is really everywhere...it is within each one of us. --Black Elk, Lakota Medicine Man ~~~~~
A Picture Of Peace There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them.
One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror, for peaceful towering mountains were all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.
The other picture had mountains too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell and in which lightening played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest... perfect peace.
Which picture do you think won the prize?
The King chose the second picture. Do you know why? "Because," explained the King, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace." --Author Unknown ~~~~~~
10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO CONTRIBUTE TO INTERNAL, INTERPERSONAL, AND ORGANIZATIONAL PEACE
1. Spend some time each day quietly reflecting on how you would like to relate to yourself and others.
2. Remember that all human beings have the same needs.
3. Check your intention to see if you are as interested in others getting their needs met as your own.
4. When asking someone to do something, check first to see if you are making a request or a demand.
5. Instead of saying what you DON'T want someone to do, say what you DO want the person to do.
6. Instead of saying what you want someone to BE, say what action you'd like the person to take that you hope will help the person be that way.
7. Before agreeing or disagreeing with anyone's opinions, try to tune in to what the person is feeling and needing.
8. Instead of saying No, say what need of yours prevents you from saying Yes.
9. If you are feeling upset, think about what need of yours is not being met, and what you could do to meet it, instead of thinking about what's wrong with others or yourself.
10. Instead of praising someone who did something you like, express your gratitude by telling the person what need of yours that action met.
The Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) would like there to be a critical mass of people using Nonviolent Communication so all people will get their needs met and resolve their conflicts peacefully. ============================================================ #5 Peace Potatoes, Eggs and Coffee Beans ============================================================ Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn't know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.
He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup.
Turning to her he asked. "Daughter, what do you see?"
"Potatoes, eggs, and coffee," she hastily replied.
"Look closer," he said, "and touch the potatoes." She did and noted that they were soft.
He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.
"Father, what does this mean?" she asked.
He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity-- the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.
"Which are you," he asked his daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond?
Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? "
In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us. Which one are you? -- Author Unknown ~~~~~
